FACEBOOK Applications to make you money

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

For those who are the owners of an online business, should know that they need a website for marketing their products on intern. For an online business to become a success, the main key is to target more and more traffic to the website. The targeted traffic will be able to increase sales and also increase the business popularity.

Marketing on internet is not an easy thing to do. The owner needs to work hard in order to make effective attraction and traffic in your website.

However, if you have a business website and wants something easier to market your business website, the best way is to work in Facebook with an application that attracts peoples to your website. Facebook is the biggest social networking website having over 62 million active users from all over the world.
Facebook provide you with a lot of tools that you can use in order to market your products, services or business website effectively and efficiently. The number of people subscribing to Facebook each day, you will definitely will be able to generate a lot of targeted traffic to your website.

As Facebook is getting more and more traffic, there are a lot of ways to market your products or services. You can purchase mass banner ads or use flyers targeted to specific people.
After the release of the new platform of Facebook’s that endeavor in social media presents a unique opportunity for marketers, developers and businesses to tap into the social network’s young, active, and viral crowd.

Now the question comes in to your mind that how the developers of Facebook applications can actually make money?

The past few weeks have been a rising concern among developers to bring out some new ways to monetize their Facebook applications. The developers develop applications for the purpose of selling them to interested parties. The important thing to be noted is that applications can have business value without creating revenue. Facebook Applications can create value/revenue by driving traffic to an outside web property and much more.

These are the several ways that facebook applications can generate revenue:

  • There are CPM revenue models for page views of facebook application canvas pages. These vary depending on who is serving the ads.
  • Monetization of digital goods that users of an app will pay real money for.
  • Cost per app install models (this specific model is short lived: possibly 18-24 months while the app marketplace matures)
  • It is my belief that uniform payment collection systems will emerge on facebook: either from facebook or a 3rd party. This will lubricate the wheels of digital commerce.
  • Subscription models from application use: Tiered services and payment for higher level of functionality.

Now anyone have no doubt, the best swimmer Michael Phelps won eight Olympic gold medal in the Beijing games than anyone before which bring his Olympic career to 14 Gold Medals – the most ever for an Olympian.

Suddenly Phelps becomes the center of attention; especially on facebook that comes with all that billion has made Phelps the friend to have on Facebook. Michael Phelps has to be the most famous person on Facebook. Why and how you may ask? Well it all can be explained with his current Beijing Olympic performance.

Anyways, back to Michael Phelps. The quickly increasing popularity of Michael Phelps on Facebook as the company decided to assist him making fan pages of him and promote it on the top of Facebook. This results that Michael Phelps’ fan page becomes the most popular fan pages on Facebook and overtook Obama with having over 1.425 million fans versus Barack who has over 1.389 million fans.

How does this effect Michael Phelps popularity? It effect in the manner that Phelps is sure to attract millions of dollars in sponsorships on returning home from the Olympics. Facebook has also planned to introduce some good quality facebook application related to Michael Phelps later this year.

The new drop down NEWS FEED by FACEBOOK

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Now Facebook introduces another facility of filtering the items in Facebook News Feed depending on what user hoping to check out, thanks to a new easy to use drop-down menu. Previously, user could sort the list by a few Facebook mainstays: status updates, photo-related updates, and “posted items.”

The new filter additions are events, groups, fan pages, several applications that differ by the member and the custom friends’ lists that Facebook started letting members create previous year.

That’s something useful. If you are having trouble to create a custom friend group for your family members then now you can filter your News Feed to keep tabs on what they’re up to. Previous technique of filtering by Bumper Sticker updates anytime soon, but sorting to keep tabs on my high-school classmates would certainly be worthwhile. And totally not creepy at all.

New Metric System introduced by FACEBOOK

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

In the on going week, the announcement about facebook is that it is going to change the application measurement’s timings from daily to monthly. According to it instead of daily activity reports, Facebook developers can now look at their widgets’ performance on period of a month.

The change makes perfect sense because widgets have many different facilities with which it interact with users, such as timers, events, triggers, and pass along. By keeping track of daily interaction the user cannot simply have a good understanding of how all of these are working. In order to grasp a clearer idea, you need to maintain a track on a long term basis, may be monthly or even quarterly.

The idea of expanding cycles of measurement has been learned by the industry before. Same as retail stores extended their tracking of fast moving inventory sales to predict next year’s fashion trends, keeping the eyes to buyer patterns over an extended period of time which enables them to make a prediction of the items that would be in high demand the next session.

This change will no matter be useful for the developers by allowing them to incorporate determining user patterns of interaction when they are modifying and designing future widgets. This change is also important to be noted by the advertisers as the industry has been dealing with a way to tap into the ever growing user base of social networks. The displaying of ads within networks has produced low conversion rates, leveraging widgets is proving to be a better opportunity. The newly developed widgets can guarantee long term user engagement, that’s good news for the advertisement circle.

Let’s hope the next metric system update from Facebook gives developers a greater leeway in targeting which of the widget elements to track, as for what may be in store for the future. Built-in tracking system can be the trends, behavioral patterns and user profiles that will lend users better a good long term measurement skyline.

GOOD & BAD NEWS ABOUT FACEBOOK APPLICATIONS

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

The good news about facebook is that over five thousand Facebook applications are currently working, and the best applications have tens of millions of installations with millions of active users.

The bad news according to our analysis is that about 87% of the usage is only on 84 applications and only 45 applications contain more than 100,000 active users. This is a long term marketplace with a vengeance — but unfortunately, the economic models (for developers at least, though not for Facebook itself) all depends on getting into the very short head. The following graph shows the distribution of active users among the top 200 developers.

As you can see in this graph, the drop-off is extremely steep. But this doesn’t mean that Facebook is not an important platform for developers, just getting Facebook application is not a short cut to quick riches. Requirements to embrace the Facebook opportunity are a lot more than optimism.

Our analysis focuses on the market for current Facebook applications, it seems that the future opportunity is less in Facebook applications per se, and more in the development of applications that use the social graph embodied in Facebook for entirely new purposes.

Facebook users being targeted by malicious hackers!

Friday, August 8th, 2008

The popular wall section of Facebook is unfortunately now a platform for malicious hackers. Through posting stuff on the walls like videos and leaving a link there they can get into your pc and access your information.

The wall is a feature used by the users of Facebook to leaves messages for each other and also videos and pictures.

The malware on the wall comes in form of a message or video with a link asking you to click on it showing that the link will land to a site hosted by google however it is not. It directs you to a page which is not hosted by Google and says to download the latest adobe’s flash player to view the file. As soon as the user does so it downloads a Trojan horse in their pc namely Troj/Dloadr-BPL. This Trojan funnels various other malicious codes detected as Troj/Agent-HJX into your machine. Once it has downloaded it shows a picture of a court jester sticking his tongue out.

So users beware of this thing before it attacks you too!
