The answer is that Facebook kept revolving the interests of the people by introducing new functionalities every few months. The big advantage of Facebook on other social networking sites is Facebook has plenty of applications to enjoy, work and play with. Facebook is also helpful in promoting your business in many ways.

Facebook is still living to the expectations because it doesn’t let the users get bored by amending according to the latest trends and interests of the users. Carrying Political Campaign on Facebook

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Politicians are now converting Facebook to a new platform to enhance their political career. With the popularity in youth of technology, many politicians are realizing the significance of Facebook. They are trying to find their votes on Facebook, as it seems effective to convince the youth. The last election young people are boosted on Vote or Die situation.

Marketing director for Facebook, Melanie Deitch said, “We wanted to provide a forum for politicians to have their ideas heard.”
The observers on political issues have noticed that Facebook is becoming a center of attention to people all over the world and it’ll prove to be effective to carry an election campaigns there. In addition to this Politicians are also taking Facebook Applications under their consideration, many applications are already present on Facebook promoting some candidates.

Professor of political science, University of Saskatchewan, David McGrane, in an interview to CBC News said “Facebook has picked up where blogs left off. This is sort of the first Facebook election,” he said. “Though blogs have been used in past federal elections, the feeling is — the feeling I’m getting — is that technology like this, information technology, is going to become more and more a part of elections.

Larissa Shasko the candidate of Green party in the Saskatchewan riding of Palliser has a Facebook Fan Page and a Facebook Application. Within three days of campaign, she got 44 supporters on that politician page. She said that she uses Facebook to send messages to her supporters, but avoid being a spammer.

She also said, “I don’t believe in spamming. I think to use Facebook to spam people is irresponsible and it just hurts those of us that are trying to get our message across to a younger age demographic who believe Facebook is a great way to let us all speak.”

Ralph Goodale, Liberal candidate, had more than 600 supporters on his Facebook page. There are many like these on Facebook and all of them are seeking for more. Some Political candidates have their own Facebook Applications to promote their ideas and motives.

New Metric System introduced by FACEBOOK

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

In the on going week, the announcement about facebook is that it is going to change the application measurement’s timings from daily to monthly. According to it instead of daily activity reports, Facebook developers can now look at their widgets’ performance on period of a month.

The change makes perfect sense because widgets have many different facilities with which it interact with users, such as timers, events, triggers, and pass along. By keeping track of daily interaction the user cannot simply have a good understanding of how all of these are working. In order to grasp a clearer idea, you need to maintain a track on a long term basis, may be monthly or even quarterly.

The idea of expanding cycles of measurement has been learned by the industry before. Same as retail stores extended their tracking of fast moving inventory sales to predict next year’s fashion trends, keeping the eyes to buyer patterns over an extended period of time which enables them to make a prediction of the items that would be in high demand the next session.

This change will no matter be useful for the developers by allowing them to incorporate determining user patterns of interaction when they are modifying and designing future widgets. This change is also important to be noted by the advertisers as the industry has been dealing with a way to tap into the ever growing user base of social networks. The displaying of ads within networks has produced low conversion rates, leveraging widgets is proving to be a better opportunity. The newly developed widgets can guarantee long term user engagement, that’s good news for the advertisement circle.

Let’s hope the next metric system update from Facebook gives developers a greater leeway in targeting which of the widget elements to track, as for what may be in store for the future. Built-in tracking system can be the trends, behavioral patterns and user profiles that will lend users better a good long term measurement skyline.

GOOD & BAD NEWS ABOUT FACEBOOK APPLICATIONS

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

The good news about facebook is that over five thousand Facebook applications are currently working, and the best applications have tens of millions of installations with millions of active users.

The bad news according to our analysis is that about 87% of the usage is only on 84 applications and only 45 applications contain more than 100,000 active users. This is a long term marketplace with a vengeance — but unfortunately, the economic models (for developers at least, though not for Facebook itself) all depends on getting into the very short head. The following graph shows the distribution of active users among the top 200 developers.

As you can see in this graph, the drop-off is extremely steep. But this doesn’t mean that Facebook is not an important platform for developers, just getting Facebook application is not a short cut to quick riches. Requirements to embrace the Facebook opportunity are a lot more than optimism.

Our analysis focuses on the market for current Facebook applications, it seems that the future opportunity is less in Facebook applications per se, and more in the development of applications that use the social graph embodied in Facebook for entirely new purposes.

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

It is getting difficult day by day to make ads on social networks. Even big-timer Google is facing a hard time although it controls a lot of the inventory on MySpace. Another ad network for social applications on Facebook called Lookery is also renewing a promotion. The new promotion will offer 15 cents per thousand page impressions to application developers who signup. That means 7.5 cents per thousand ad impression. The same network in January was offering 12.5 cents per ad impression. This shows it has cut down its rates to nearly half.
